You’ve probably heard it a million times. All the experts telling you to share your weight-loss goal. They’ve got pages of research that says sharing gives you a better chance of success. It keeps you accountable.
But those same experts never seem to address the real barriers men have with sharing. Who, How, When and Why is it so tough? So, as ever, The Man Shake is here to help. Here are the 4x big questions on sharing and how to solve them.
Why sharing is so tough for Aussie blokes?
Put simply, it’s not your fault. As young men we were taught to compete. To never show vulnerability. To be self-reliant, That’s in sport, in school, in friendships, even in business. Sharing meant losing some of our power and, as a result, we keep everything to ourselves.
So, sharing is hard – particularly something as personal as your weight-loss goal. But, just like other Man Shakers before you, you can overcome your self-consciousness.
How do you start a sharing conversation?
Make sure you pick a time and place where you are relaxed. Could be a quiet moment at the end of a day. Or over a beer at the pub. Or after a game. Many men find it easier to sit side-by-side rather than face-to-face. You can even talk over-the-phone if that’s easier.
The key to starting the conversation is to be honest. What led you to this moment? Why do you want to be healthy? And how can they help?
Remember, setting and sharing goals is a weight-loss superpower. It keeps you accountable, keeps you energised and keeps you on track.
