We all know that catching some solid z’s is vital for us, but between managing work, wrangling the kids and everything in between, quality sleep can feel like a pipe dream (mind the pun).

But did you know that people who don’t get enough sleep are at higher risk of obesity, high blood pressure, heart attack, diabetes and depression? Not to mention it’s a key ingredient for losing weight!!!

So … sleep is kind of a non-negotiable! Here are our top tips to give you the best chance of a good night's sleep.

Stick to a routine

Easier said than done, but if you try and hit the sack and rise at the same time each day, your body gets into a bit of a routine and makes those morning starts a little less rough.

Get that heart rate up

A bit of exercise during the day can help you sleep like a baby at night. Even just 10 minutes of activity during the day can help get rid of some of that unused energy.

Don’t eat too late

What you eat and what time you eat can have a massive impact on your sleep quality. Avoid scoffing down anything too heavy or having caffeine or alcohol too close to bedtime.

Make sure you have a comfortable pillow

There’s nothing worse than waking up with a crook neck from a lumpy pillow. We’re not saying spend big, just find one that’s comfy and suits you!

Unplug and chill

We all love a bit of tech, hell, it's how we connect with you guys! But those screens can be real sleep stealers. The blue light background messes with your body’s sleep signals, so try disconnecting at least half an hour before going to sleep. Use that time for a chat with the Mrs or read that book that’s still on the bedside table, whatever helps you relax a little before you get some shut-eye.

Manage your stress

We’ve all got worries, but a racing mind can keep you tossing and turning. Jotting down things on tomorrow’s to-do list can help clear the mind, as well as a few deep breaths before hitting the hay.

In a nutshell, catching quality shut-eye is within your reach and vital for keeping you in good nick. Give these tips a go and hopefully enjoy the benefits.
