Anthony's 20kg Man Shake Journey

Share

I’m Anthony from New South Wales and this is my Man Shake journey so far.

In my early 20s, I was never skinny, but I was very active playing Basketball and AFL. After getting married and having 2 children I started a new career in an office job. As a result, I stopped playing sports and spent less time being active. When I turned 30, I noticed I had put on a few extra kgs so I decided to start The Man Shake. That lasted for about 3 months with some small results, then it fizzled.

Was that seriously me in that picture?

About 8 months ago (35-year-old and 135kgs) I was sent a picture of myself by a friend after we just went mountain biking. I was so shocked to see that the person in the picture was me. From there I decided to start making changes but didn’t really know where to start. I had some Man Shake left over and found a book by an author named Fary John Bishop called “Unf**k Yourself”. And that was the beginning of my journey.

I set myself realistic goals to achieve and I started to work towards them. I cut out soft drinks and substituted them for soda water. I stopped having a cappuccino with sugar and moved to plain long blacks. I started walking every single day (rain hail or shine). I started working out more.

I set myself a routine and core habits to hit my goals

Over time these became a habit, something that I enjoy doing. It takes time for this to happen and at times you become discouraged, but the results started coming and that was motivation. I have lost 20kgs and hit my first goal of being 115kgs. My next goal is to get under 100kgs.

With my routine, I fast from 7 pm to 12 pm daily and have a Man Shake (mixed with the Choc Super Greens) to start my day. I will have the bars (along with some protein yoghurt, nuts and fruit) for snacks then I have a healthy dinner, and a snack for dessert. I still go out and have takeaway with the family, but I make better choices in what I pick. I have focused on being in a calorie deficit daily to ensure I was not eating more than I should.

My favourite flavours are the Choc Honeycomb, Caramel, and Vanilla. I never really mixed them together instead just had them separately. Choc Berry, Choc Peanut Butter and Choc Hazelnut are my go-to bars.

I like the Immunity Booster Pack with Choc Honeycomb, Vanilla, Caramel, and Cookies & Cream. I must admit I haven’t tried the GO! range but they look amazing. When I have a spare bit of cash on me, I will go for the Ultimate Weight Loss Pack with the bars.

I inspire my family & friends around me to make a change too

It’s amazing how much more mobility I have since putting in the effort to become a healthy version of myself. Little things like bending over to tie my shoes were an effort and finding clothes that I liked but wouldn’t fit was a real crap feeling.

I started to inspire my son to do more and to focus on what it means to be committed to something. I have started to inspire my friends to get off the lounge and make a change too. I am not one to really brag and I don’t like showing off but when I hit my first goal, I was so over the moon I had to tell everyone.

If I was to inspire others I would say that if you do anything in life start making a 1% change in everything you do. Look at everything around you and think about what 1% can you change for the better.
