Grant’s journey from 120kg to 90kg inside 6 months!

High blood pressure, rising blood sugar, a heart attack on the
horizon – Grant’s Doc was worried.
My name is Grant, I’m 58 years old and I guess you could say I’ve been
through it all.
A divorce ending a 20-year marriage in 2016, various injuries from a
punctured lung, broken ribs, broken scapula, cracked pelvis and currently
torn psoas tendon from an accident and other sporting injuries.
During my marriage, I was overweight and had Type 2 Diabetes. After my
marriage ended, I went into depression and just didn't care. This saw my
weight increase, and I got up to 120kgs. I had an appointment with my
doctor, and he told me my blood pressure was not ok, my blood sugar was
rising and there was a heart attack on the horizon if I didn't do something
about it.

When I was younger, I was always sporty - surfing, gym, footy etc - so I
decided to get active again. At the start, I couldn't do 5 push ups or walk
long distances, let alone run, because of my old injuries and the state of
my health. I started slowly with some walking and gym workouts. After a
while, I started jogging and bike riding. Whilst getting active again, I was
also trying to eat a bit better. I was having things like salmon salads and
not as many pizzas. I found this worked for a while, and I lost about 20kg
but reoccurring injuries kept stalling me, and I would put the weight back
on.
This cycle continued for a few years until I saw The Man Shake advertised
on TV. I went to the website and read that you can't out-train a bad diet or
be healthy just by exercising.
So here I was - an overweight diabetic with a sore body. I took the plunge,
bought a bundle from The Man Shake and decided to give it a red-hot go.
I found The Man Shake website had lots of good recipes and people's
testimonies that helped me. I also found The Man Shakers group on
Facebook that gave me so many insightful stories I could read as well, and
tips on ways to use The Man Shake, snack ideas and different flavours.
When I started, I followed the instructions in The Man Shake Guide and
decided to have two shakes a day. Through learning and with the help of
guys in The Man Shakers Facebook group I worked out good, nutritious
snacks that would work for me.
I dropped 2kg after my first week and kept losing weight on a consistent
basis. This was while I still had a social life and a treat day once a week -
anything I wanted to eat and a few beers - how good is that!
The big goal for me when I started was breaking the 100kg mark - that
was huge and a massive achievement for me that I am so proud of.
Once I achieved that goal, I kept moving it lower – a 100kg goal became
95kg, then 90kg. And I got there - I went from 120kg to 90kg inside 6
months! How good is that!! So, I reset my end goal again to 85kg. When I
got there, I was feeling and looking bloody good, so I thought why not
80kg? For 2 over two months now I've been bouncing between 80-83kg,
and I am very happy with that!
Along the way I had my bloods checked and the results were getting
better and better. My doctor has taken me off my Diabetes tablets, I don’t
have high blood pressure, and my liver, kidney, cholesterol counts are all
great. I still suffer injuries but with The Man Shake I don't implode - I still
can maintain my weight or even continue to lose weight whilst injured. For
me this is a big think as it helps ensure depression doesn't kick in.
I have now tried most flavours of The Man Shake. My favourite flavours
are The Man Shake GO Espresso (my breaky shake), Birthday Cake,
Mango, Triple Choc Hazelnut, Choc Chip Cookie Dough and Honeycomb
Choc Crunch. I also enjoy mixing flavours too like Chocolate and Banana.
My favourite Man Bar flavour is Choc Orange – I reckon it tastes just like
Jaffa! I also love Choc Coffee, Rocky Road, Choc Honeycomb, Chunky Choc
and Choc Hazelnut.
My routine these days is The Man Shake GO for breaky, a Man Bar for my
morning snack, a healthy lunch of lean meat and fresh vegetables or
steak and eggs or vegetable soup or stews, an afternoon snack of natural
Greek yogurt and berries, and my dinner is a shake again (any flavour that
I have in stock!). I enjoy a treat day once a week of anything I feel like -
and still enjoy the beers, how good!
Thanks to The Man Shake - and the guys in The Man Shakers community
